Posted November 07, 2018 06:12:10A series of shocking revelations from the Sydney sevens have been revealed by the ABC’s The Shovel, revealing how the Sydney Stars failed to pay the NRL’s official $20 million payment to cover the cost of the 2020-21 season.
The revelations, first reported by The Shove, have revealed that the Stars were in breach of NRL rule 1.4, which states the team must pay “at least” $20,000 to the club’s “general manager” to cover “the costs of the event, including any costs incurred by the club as a result of the official payment.”
The Stars have since been fined $25,000 and the NRL have appealed the decision.
The Shovel is a partnership between The Shovers and The ABC.

This revelation, which comes amid an investigation into the NRL by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), has renewed calls for the NRL to investigate whether or not the Sydney Knights have broken the rule.AAP/ABC News
